Winner of the 2018 SFU Esri Canada GIS Award
Congratulations to Alysha van Duynhoven (BSc Computing Science, Minor in Geography, Spatial Information Systems Certificate) as the winner of the SFU 2018 Esri Canada Higher Education Scholarship Award. Alysha's submission was related to the examination of a parallelized hyperparameter tuning approach for the Random Tree classification of GIS data.
The scholarship award recognizes excellent achievement in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) through the design and implementation of an original and individual project related to the advancement of methods or applications in the discipline. Esri Canada is a Canadian company that provides world-class solutions for GIS software and enterprise development.
This year's award was managed by Drs. Suzana Dragicevic and Shiv Balram, SFU's ECCE in GIS coordinators. The applications were evaluated by a team of SFU faculty members associated with the ECCE, Drs. Margaret Schmidt (Geography), Meghan Winters (Health Sciences) and Wolfgang Stuerzlinger (SIAT).
