• Since 1965, SFU has been different鈥� on purpose. We built a leading research university atop Burnaby Mountain from the ground up and challenged what post-secondary education means.
• In our early days, we were known as the 鈥渞adical campus,鈥� a university that wasn鈥檛 afraid to challenge the status quo. And at every stage of our 60-year journey we have responded to the changing needs of both the world around us, and the people and communities we serve.
• Since SFU鈥檚 creation, the university has developed a robust and engaged community of students, alumni, faculty, staff, research and community partners, and donors. On our 60th anniversary we celebrate our success to-date, as we lean into a future of further connection, advancement and innovation.

• SFU opened in 1965 as a small provincial university with just 2,628 students.

• Our Vancouver campus, known as the intellectual heart of the city, opened in 1989 on traditional x史m蓹胃k史蓹y虛蓹m (Musqueam), S岣祑x瘫w煤7mesh 脷xwumixw (Squamish), s蓹lilw蓹ta涩 (Tsleil-Waututh) territories to foster connections with the business community and meet the educational demands of working professionals.
• SFU's Surrey campus opened in 2002 and resides on the traditional territories of q虛铆c虛蓹y虛 (Katzie), k史ik史蓹茮虛蓹m (Kwikwetlem), Qayqayt, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen peoples. SFU Surrey brought cutting-edge initiatives and programs into B.C.鈥檚 fastest growing city.

• Over the past 60 years, SFU has become a leading research university, consistently ranked in the top 1-2% of universities worldwide.鈥�
• We equip over 37,000 students annually with the knowledge, skills and experiences to prepare them for careers and life in an ever-changing and challenging world.
• SFU has one of the country鈥檚 most respected co-op programs, helping students to gain critical work experience and build their resumes while completing a university degree.鈥�
• On average, Bachelor鈥檚 degree holders earn 24 per cent more than the national average.
• SFU鈥檚 impact can be seen in all corners of the globe, with more than 200,000 alumni.
• With vibrant campuses in British Columbia鈥檚 three largest cities鈥擝urnaby, Surrey and Vancouver鈥擲FU continues to grow.
• SFU Surrey will be the future home of Western Canada鈥檚 newest medical school, accepting students in 2026.
