About the Role
The School of Medicine at A片资源吧 invites applications for the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lead. The appointment will be for a 3-year term, renewable, with an underlying faculty position. The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. This is a part-time appointment (approximately 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent) to facilitate other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) that candidates may have.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the rank, category of appointment, and experience of the candidate, however, a reasonable estimate of the salary range is $138,950 - $151,450, prorated depending on other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) outside of academic work.
This position reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (AD UGME).
Key Areas of Involvement
The Clinical Skills and Simulation Lead is responsible for the instructional design of clinical skills and other clinical simulation learning activities. In fulfilling this mandate, the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lead works in close collaboration with the Case-Based Learning (CBL) Lead, MEDS Course Leads and other clinical instructors as well as the School of Medicine鈥檚 Medical Education Technology division. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:
Design weekly clinical skills and simulated clinical learning activities aligned with program competencies and CBL/case presentations;
Coordinate the Clinical Skills sessions with other curricular components;
Incorporate and adapt technologies to enhance clinical learning to develop skills with technology enabled clinical care;
Explore, pilot and where appropriate implement the use of emerging technologies to enhance clinical learning;
Provide ongoing mentorship to learners;
Undertake duties as may from time to time be assigned to them by the Associate Dean, UGME; and,
Optionally: instruct up to 4 weekly clinical skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) is required.
Eligibility to hold a license to practice medicine in British Columbia is required.
Experience in clinical skills teaching at undergraduate level in medical education.
Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities and values.
Experience with the development, management, and/or monitoring of medical education curriculum and/or programs.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and teams.
Experience using and or modifying learning technologies.
Familiarity with undergraduate medical education and health care environments (with a preference for primary care environments).
Additional Assets
Preference will be given to family physicians and generalist specialists.
Knowledge of accreditation standards and guidelines for undergraduate medical education

About the Role

The position will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate Dean level, commensurate with the candidate鈥檚 experience and qualifications. The appointment will be for a 3-year term, renewable, with an underlying faculty position. The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. Alternative appointment arrangements (such as half-time) may also be considered to facilitate other commitments candidates may have.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the rank, category of appointment, and experience of the candidate, as well as the proration of the salary depending on other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) outside of academic work.
The compensation for the successful applicant includes a base salary for the underlying academic appointment which is prorated for the time commitment, plus an administrative stipend. A reasonable combined compensation estimate for a full-time appointment to the Assistant Dean level would be $156,000 - $220,000 while a reasonable combined compensation estimate for a full-time appointment at the Associate Dean level would be $210,000 - $250,000.
This position reports to the Dean, School of Medicine.
The School will appoint a candidate at either the Assistant or Associate Dean rank with the following expectations:
Assistant Dean: Meets required qualifications and shows promise and potential for assuming a leadership role. Locally/regionally recognized in their field. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for monitoring and managing the School's commitment to equity and social accountability in its programs.
Associate Dean: Meets or exceeds required qualifications and assets, with at least 3 years of experience in a faculty leadership role. Provincially/nationally recognized in their field. The Associate Dean will be responsible for advancing long-term strategies for equity and social accountability across the School and its programs, will become a member of the SoM Executive team and participate in broader SoM strategic decision-making processes, and serve on pan-University meetings of Associate Deans.
Key Areas of Involvement
The Assistant/Associate Dean, ESA is responsible for promoting and advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and social accountability within the School of Medicine. In fulfilling this mandate, the Assistant/Associate Dean works in close collaboration with the Dean, the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health (ADIH), and the executive leadership team of the School. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:
Developing and implementing strategies, goals, objectives and metrics for tracking progress, continuous improvement, and achieving excellence in equity, diversity, and inclusion within the School of Medicine鈥檚 medical education programs;
Collaborating with the ADIH and Indigenous communities to embed Indigenous knowledge systems in the School鈥檚 medical education programs;
Leading initiatives to advance social accountability in medical education, with a focus on equity in primary care environments;
Ensuring the School of Medicine meets its social accountability obligations and the priority health concerns of the populations served by the School through its policies and practices, as well as admissions, curricular content, and types and locations of educational experiences;
Providing mentorship and support to learners and faculty in areas related to equity, diversity, and inclusion and social accountability;
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of EDI and Social Accountability initiatives and programs through specific outcome measures;
Collaborating with SFU鈥檚 central Equity Office to ensure the alignment of the School of Medicine with the institutional EDI framework and consistent with SFU鈥檚 value of equity and belonging as stated in 鈥淲hat鈥檚 Next: The SFU Strategy鈥;
Contributing and developing programming on Inclusive Excellence consistent with SFU鈥檚 material for faculty members鈥 continuing professional development programming; and,
Undertaking duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) or Master鈥檚 Degree/PhD* in a field related to public health, health sciences or education with significant experience in health care environments.
Excellent knowledge and lived experience of supporting individuals from diverse populations from equity-deserving groups recognizing the diversity of experience based on gender identity, sexuality, race, age, class, family status, disability, Indigeneity, immigration status, language, religion, national or ethnic origin, and intersecting identities in health care environments (with a preference for primary care environments).
Experience leading and facilitating anti-oppression and systemic decolonization efforts; and/or EDI initiatives within medical education or health care environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead EDI training and development programs, including experience developing an evaluation framework for those programs.
Ability to advocate for and address the social and environmental determinants of health that result in health inequities and the systemic exclusion of equity-deserving groups in health care systems, practices and procedures.
Ability to advocate for historically marginalized and/or under-represented faculty, staff, and students and active pursuit of the goals of Indigenization and reconciliation and continued delivery of the Report of the SFU Aboriginal Reconciliation Council (ARC).
Direct teaching experience with medical learners.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and teams.
Excellent knowledge of culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches and best practices in health care environments.
Additional Assets
Preference will be given to those with experience in primary care and/or in the fields of public or population health.
Proficiency in more than one language is considered a valuable asset, enhancing our ability to serve diverse communities and foster inclusive engagement.
Eligibility to hold a license to practice medicine in British Columbia is preferred.

The curriculum of the School of Medicine is designed to provide students with an integrated experience that coordinates and weaves learning across classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical and community settings. For the first year of the program, these experiences are contained within one course entitled 鈥淢EDS 410鈥.
The appointment will be for up to a 3-year term, renewable, with an underlying faculty position. The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. This is a part-time appointment (approximately 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent) to facilitate other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) that candidates may have.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the academic rank and experience of the candidate, however, a reasonable estimate of the salary range, based on a 0.5 appointment, is $138,950 - $151,450, prorated depending on other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) outside of academic work. Appointments equal to or above a 0.5 FTE are eligible for benefits.
This position reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (AD UGME).
Key Areas of Involvement
The MEDS 410 Course Lead is responsible for the coordination and delivery of the MEDS 410 Course. In fulfilling this mandate, the MEDS 410 Course Lead works in close collaboration with Learning Modality (e.g., Case-Based Learning) and Theme (e.g., Anatomy) Leads, the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, and related operations staff. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:
Support curriculum development and review;
Work with the Evaluation Unit to evaluate MEDS 410 and its components;
Coordinate sequencing and integration of learning activities for MEDS 410;
Prepare instructional roster;
Work with Learning Modality and Theme Leads to coordinate weekly learner activities;
Provide ongoing mentorship to learners;
Serve as the co-chair of the curriculum subcommittee;
Work with others to ensure the curriculum meets or exceeds accreditation standards;
Support faculty recruitment efforts; and
Undertake duties as may from time to time be assigned to them by the Associate Dean, UGME.
Qualifications & Experience:

The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research.
Alternative appointment arrangements (such as half-time) may also be considered to facilitate other commitments candidates may have.
The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the rank, category of appointment, and experience of the candidate, however, a reasonable estimate of the salary range is $220,000 鈥 270,000 (inclusive of an administrative stipend for the Associate Dean role and prorated depending on full-time equivalence/other commitments outside of academic work).
The Associate Dean, PGME will be responsible for leadership and strategic development of SFU SoM鈥檚 Postgraduate Medical Education (residency) programs. The Associate Dean will lead the PGME accreditation and continuous quality improvement processes, including internal reviews and preparing and supporting programs for external reviews in collaboration with the Associate Dean, Accreditation, Assessment and Evaluation. This position reports to the Dean.
Key Areas of Involvement
The Associate Dean, PGME is responsible for leadership of the SFU PGME (residency) programs including the strategic development and the implementation of policies pertaining to postgraduate medical education within the SFU School of Medicine. In fulfilling this mandate, the Associate Dean, PGME works in close collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean Accreditation, Assessment and Evaluation (AD AAE), the Associate Dean, Medical Education A片资源吧 (AD MEP), and other members of the Executive Team of the School of Medicine, as well as PGME program directors. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:
Provide leadership in advancing the School of Medicine鈥檚 strategic plan and goals.
Provide leadership in the strategic development and implementation of the SFU SoM postgraduate medical education (residency) programs.
Craft the roles and responsibilities for the role as the founding Associate Dean, PGME.
Lead monitoring of PGME programs, including the distribution of residents and appropriate resourcing to ensure educational standards in residency experiences.
Ensure PGME programs meet or exceed accreditation standards of the College of Family Physicians Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Participate on the Dean鈥檚 Executive Committee.
In collaboration with AD AAE, oversee and provide support for the implementation and monitoring of the programs of assessment within PGME programs
Accountability for the processes and outcomes of the PGME programs.
In collaboration with the AD AAE and other senior leaders, ensure continued compliance with accreditation bodies.
In collaboration with the AD MEP, develop, interpret and/or implement policies related to PGME programs
In collaboration with the Associate Dean Indigenous Health (ADIH) and other members of the Senior Leadership Team, contribute to SFU SoM鈥檚 commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission鈥檚 Calls to Action #23 and 24.
In collaboration with the ADIH, create opportunities to integrate Indigenous ways of knowing into PGME residency program curriculum, assessment, policies and processes.
In collaboration with the Assistant Dean Learner Affairs, support residents requiring additional learning resources.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean Research (ADR), support and encourage research in medical education to residents/PGME learners.
Assist and advise faculty members (who are direct reports) in the Office of Postgraduate Medical Education regarding the performance of their duties and their career development.
Work closely with other members of the executive team to develop SoM policy, planning and operations.
Work closely with other members of the executive team to support the space, staffing and funding needs of the PGME (residency) programs.
Represent the SoM with regard to postgraduate studies by being a member of relevant bodies within SFU.
Work with deans and leaders for postgraduate medical education at other Canadian institutions to support innovation and to address problems of mutual interest and concern.
Undertake duties as may from time to time be assigned to them by the Dean.
Serve as Acting Dean on notification from the Dean of short-term absences.
- Serve on pan-university meetings of Associate Deans.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required
M.D. (Doctor of Medicine).
CCFP/FCFP designation.
Minimum of 5 years of direct teaching experience with medical learners.
Experience in medical education leadership.
Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities and values.
Experience with the development, management, and/or monitoring of medical education curriculum and/or programs.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated commitment to administrative, organizational and collaborative leadership, and adept at building and maintaining constructive relationships with various university groups and external partners.
Familiarity with residency programs, the medical education environment, and health care environments (with a preference for primary care environments).
