Health and Counselling at SFU Surrey
Health & Counselling provides free, confidential, and time-limited counselling support for all SFU and FIC students currently enrolled in a term. Our team offers initial consultations and assessments, information and referrals, workshops, crisis support, safety planning, and individual and group counselling to address various concerns. Services are delivered by Registered Clinical Counsellors, Registered Psychologists, and their professional student trainees.

Alex Vanderveen, counsellor (temporary) for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, who integrates 2SLGBTQIA+-affirmative, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and process experiential/emotion-focused counselling approaches. Alex aims to create a safe, inclusive space that fosters clients' well-being, self-understanding, and growth.
Jennifer Reandy, with SFU’s Indigenous Student Centre (ISC), works from a braided practise that honours Indigenous knowledge, strength-based person/community centered approach, trauma informed and anti-oppressive lens that strives for wholistic balance (emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual).
Monique Wong, who provides counselling in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, and takes a counselling approach that empathizes the mind-body connection through the lens of cultural humility, somatic experiencing, narrative therapy, and mindfulness practice. Monique is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and a EMDR trained therapist.
