BC Residents (Part-Time)

Undergraduate students who are enrolled in 3 – 8 units at SFU exclusively are considered to be studying part-time. Note: students with a recognized disability through StudentAid BC who are enrolled in a minimum of 6 units per term can be considered to be studying full-time; to discuss your options, please contact us.

Changes for Spring 2025

 launched a  for part-time students on November 28, 2024. All part-time StudentAid BC applications must be submitted this through new process.

Part-Time Student Funding (SABC)

StudentAid BC (SABC) assists eligible  with part-time student financial assistance. Explore  to learn more about eligibility requirements and how much funding is available to support part-time studies.

The assessment for part-time students is different than for full-time students. The part-time studies program only covers: tuition and supplemental fees, books and supplies, transportation and child care up to the funding maximums. Part-time funding does not cover student living expenses.

Full-time status

If you are enrolled in more than 8 units, or in a co-operative learning experience, see the BC Residents (Full-Time) section. If you are enrolled in less than 3 units, you are ineligible for government student loan funding.

Before You Apply

  • If you are enrolled in Co-Op, you are considered a full-time student, and are not eligible for part-time funding.  
  • If you are enrolled in a Non-Degree program and are taking qualifying studies to satisfy prerequisite requirements for a specific graduate program; OR you cannot enter into an undergraduate major without first completing courses necessary to meet the entrance requirements for the undergraduate major you may be eligible for funding. You will be requested to provide supporting documents for your studies.  t to us with any questions you may have.

Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Students

As a Part-Time student, you may be eligible for the Canada Student Grant for Part-Time Students. Yearly are posted for both Canada Student Loan and Grant eligibility.

How to Apply

 changed how students apply for funding starting Spring 2025. No paper-based, Part-Time Studies applications can be accepted after November 20, 2024.

Students can submit applications for Summer 2025 through the new StudentAid BC  For instructions on how to apply for and submit a part-time studies application, visit: .

Students can start to submit applications for Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026 starting June 16, 2025.
