In-Memoriam: Dr. Michael Manley-Casimir
The Faculty of Education mourns the , a distinguished scholar, dedicated educator, and co-founder of what is today known as the (CCEJ) at SFU.
Dr. Manley-Casimir had a long and meaningful relationship with SFU and the Faculty of Education, . He held the title of Professor Emeritus and played a foundational role in shaping the university’s approach to education and justice.
In 1982, Dr. Manley-Casimir, alongside Dr. Wanda Cassidy, established the Education and Law Project, a groundbreaking initiative that explored the intersection of legal and ethical principles. The project later evolved into the Centre for Education, Law, and Society (CELS), and continues today as the Cassidy Centre for Educational Justice, an enduring testament to his vision and leadership.
"We are the proud beneficiaries of Mike’s scholarship and hope that our work today lives up to the vision of justice he devoted his scholarly attention to."
