Introducing our newest course: IAT 111 Artificial Intelligence Today and Tomorrow
IAT 111 Artificial Intelligence Today and Tomorrow: Systems, Applications, and Ethical Challenges is a groundbreaking elective, designed for all students, that offers a unique opportunity to demystify AI and equip students with the knowledge to thrive in an AI-driven future.
AI is transforming every field, from healthcare to business, creative industries to scientific research. This course, taught by Professor Steve DiPaola, will provide non-technical students with a comprehensive exploration of AI technologies, their underlying principles, societal implications, and transformative potential.鈥� Students will leave the course with the foundational knowledge to navigate and succeed in an increasingly AI-integrated professional landscape.
In this course students will:
- Learn how neural networks, deep learning, and ChatGPT-style systems work
- Use cutting-edge AI tools and see live demos from Professor Steve DiPaola鈥檚 research lab
- Learn how AI will transform your field, specifically, and future-proof your career
- Navigate AI鈥檚 biggest challenges: bias, privacy, job displacement, and societal impact
- Gain practical skills and frameworks to help build your AI tool kit
Students in the course will benefit from DiPaola's expertise in making AI and complex concepts accessible to diverse audiences. Bringing 25+ years of AI experince from Silicon Valley to Electronic Arts, DiPaola's real-world AI applications span entertainment, automotive, healthcare, and environmental sectors.
No programming is required and no prerequisites are required to take this course. The course is open to all SFU students and will be based at the Burnaby campus.
