Cecilia's Intervew

Nadine Attewell, Global Asia Program Director, asked new GA graduate Cecilia Chen about her time in the GA Program and her plans for the future. Here is what Cecilia had to say:

"One of the most rewarding aspects of the minor was how it complemented my sociology studies by deepening my understanding of identity, power, and transnational experience. The program encouraged me to see Asia as a diverse and globally connected region, especially from a Canadian and North American perspective, and helped fill gaps in my understanding of South and Central Asian histories.

"What left the strongest impression were courses on gender in Asian history and the lived experiences of diasporic and marginalized communities, such as Chinese Canadians and Indigenous descendants. These classes challenged me to think more critically about visibility, belonging, and whose narratives are included in dominant histories.
This summer, I hope to rest while beginning to search for work related to cultural research and writing — whether here in Canada or elsewhere. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m excited to see where this path might lead. Graduate studies also remain a possibility I’m keeping in mind." - Cecilia Chen

Cecilia Chen graduated in June 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts, double minor in Global Asia and Sociology. Congratulations, Cecilia!
