Congratulations graduands!

Chancellor's message

Welcome to SFU’s June 2025 convocation ceremony! It is wonderful to mark this milestone with you.

As you leave our celebrations today, you might be feeling some trepidation about what comes next. Indeed, you graduate into a world that feels full of more change and uncertainty than ever before. But history teaches us that with change comes opportunity.

There are incredible opportunities in front of you now—opportunities to bring new voices to the conversation and new lenses to old problems. Our world faces complex challenges, but those challenges are also invitations extended to you, and I encourage you to pursue every single one that comes your way. After all, you never know what might be waiting just around the corner.

Wherever you go from here, please know that the SFU community will always be in your corner, cheering you on. We are so proud of you.

From all of us, our heartfelt congratulations.

President's message

This convocation ceremony comes at a critical point in Canada’s history, and, it seems, history at large. During this time of change and chaos, I am thrilled that we get to celebrate you—not just your academic accomplishments, but also the thoughtfulness, creativity and spirit that you brought to your time at SFU.

Each of you is graduating with the skills you need to help build an inclusive and sustainable future. From writing, teaching and critical thinking to math, science, and everything in between—there is a role for you to play in creating a world that is more compassionate, more empathetic and more open to diverse perspectives. We need you now, more than ever, to continue the journey of bringing that future to life.

On behalf of everyone at SFU, we are so lucky to have known and been inspired by you. I know that you will join our community of 200,000+ alumni to make a difference in your communities and beyond.

Thank you for everything, and congratulations.
